On Friday, February 29, 2008,
Officer Derek Owens
was gunned down by a 19 year old male while on duty.  Officer Owens' partner, Officer Robert Goines, along with other officers successfully worked throughout the night to located and capture the shooter.  All were devastated when Officer Owens succumbed to his injuries at approximately 0030 hours on 3-1-2008. 

Derek was 36 years old, married to Ericka, and the proud father of 2 children, Sydni & Chandler.  He was a graduate of the 118th Academy Class and served Cleveland's Fourth Neighborhood District for 10 years.
