POLITICAL ACTION

     The Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association shall provide education, history and research to our members regarding ballot issues, amendments, and ordinances, as well as the qualifications and ratings of candidates, their legislative or judicial records, and past comments in the press or other media outlets.  While the CPPA reserves the right to endorse or not endorse any specific ballot initiative or individual race, all requests for endorsements will receive the highest level of vetting and scrutiny from our members.  All candidates and issues requesting our endorsement should review the Mission of the CPPA tab and be prepared to provide responses as to how they will advance the betterment of our membership and community. 

 
CURRENT LEGISLATION/ LEGAL ACTION
 
Ohio Senate Bill 82Prohibits political subdivisions from adopting residency requirements for employees.  Initiatives may be enacted which require an employee to live in the county of location or an adjoining county.  Passed House on January 18th, 2006.  Signed by Governor, effective May 1, 2006. 
 
F.L.S.A:  Beck vs. City of ClevelandU.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of CPPA; U.S. Supreme Court declined to consider.  Case reassigned to docket of Federal Judge Patricia Gaughan for further review, awaiting pre-trial date.
