Officers Down... But Definitely Not OUT!

On Friday, August 24, 2007, Patrolmen Aric Pruitt and Robert Ellis were patrolling their assigned neighborhood in Cleveland's Fourth District.  While on Miles Avenue their patrol car was almost struck by a suspected intoxicated driver who was traveling in the wrong direction in the opposite lanes.

The officers initiated a pursuit to investigate the driver and to prevent further imminent danger to other drivers and pedestrians.  While pursuing the suspect their patrol car was struck by another vehicle which did not yield to the patrol car's lights and sirens.  Their car then careened into a utility pool and life flight was utilized to transport the officers to Metro Health Medical Center after both officers were critically injured.
